Bagru Print Collection
Bagru print is a centuries-old tradition of hand block printing from Bagru, Rajasthan, practised by the skilled Chhipa community. Known for its use of natural dyes, wooden blocks, and mud-resist techniques like Dabu, Bagru prints blend earthy elegance, enduring motifs, and sustainable craft.
Craft & Process
In the Bagru method, fabric is first treated, then stamped with intricate designs using carved wood blocks and natural pigments (commonly red, black, mustard), often applying resist paste (mud, clay) to define patterns before dyeing. The motifs are inspired by nature — florals, fauna, geometric forms — resulting in designs that feel timeless, rich, and grounded. In Bagru village, this art lives in Chhipa Mohalla, where generations carve and maintain block libraries and keep printing traditions alive. The printing techniques often use mordant printing (syahi begar) and traditional Dabu resist processes to achieve depth and contrast in design.
